“Prospecting for Oil” Oil on board dated 1949 by Charles W Bush

Charles William Bush was born in Fitzroy in 1919, dying in 1989. He studied at the National Gallery of Victoria Schools between 1935 and 1940, and in London with Bernard Meninsky 1950-1951. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1951 and was a member of an Australian cultural delegation to China in 1956. He was an Official War Artist between 1943 and 1946. He travelled and exhibited widely in the UK, Spain, France, Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Mexico and the USA.
His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery, Canberra as well as most State and many regional galleries, the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House and some university and corporate collections.
