William Trotter of Edinburgh (1772-1833) was a highly respected maker of Regency furniture; he has been called Scotland’s greatest cabinet-maker.He has a distinctive and recognisable style. He also attained distinction as Lord Provost of Edinburgh (1825-1827). He provided furniture for many distinguished patrons (Lord Gray at Kinfauns Castle, John Holme Robertson at Paxton House and the Signet Library, Edinburgh).
