SOLD Oil on panel dated 1872 by Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg.

Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg was born in Draveil in 1838, dying in 1904 in Paris. He was a painter, watercolourist, landscapes, seascapes and panoramas. He was the son of the Austrian painter Karl Josef Kuwasseg and first worked with his father, later studying with Durand-Brager and Isabey. He became and art teacher and his pupils included Iwill and Émile Clarel. Kuwasseg’s style combined strength with delicacy so successfully that he was highly regarded by collectors in his own lifetime. He specialised in painting scenes of the Brittany coast and the North Sea as well as the Normandy countryside and Paris suburbs. He exhibited regularly from 1855 at the Paris Salon as well as the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded a Bronze Medal in 1892.

His work is represented in the collections of the Museums at Digne-les-Bains, La Rochelle, Montreal, Morlaix, Périgeux, Pontoise and Rouen.
