Fernand Leger was born in 1881 in Argentan, dying in 1955 in Gif-sur-Yonne. He was a painter, sculptor, draughtsman, ceramicist. He was a major artist of the inter-war and post-war period. He worked composers such as Darius Milhaud designing sets for the ‘Creation du Mond’ ballet amongst others, and numerous stained glass and mural commissions including for the UN Building in New York.
