Hebe, Cup Bearer to the Gods; oil on canvas c1810 attributed to François Villiers-Huet. Villiers-Huet was a painter of genre, landscapes and animals as well a a water colourist and painter of miniatures. The son of Jean Baptiste Huet, he was born at Paris in 1772 and dying London in 1813. He fled to Britain after the outbreak of the French Revolution. He held appointment as Painter to the King of France, and miniature painter to the Duchess of York. He exhibited in Paris in 1799 ("Portrait of Citizen Huet, father of the Artist") also in 1800, 1801 and in 1812. He exhibited frequently in London at the Royal Academy between 1803 and 1813. He was a Member of the Associated Artists in Watercolour and the Sketching Society, and exhibited at the Old Watercolour Society in 1813. He was best known for his series of actresses and other ladies in mythological character.His work is represented in the collection of the British Museum. The work has been professionally cleaned and measures framed: 74cm x 88cm.
