Bronze Canopic Jar
SOLD This wonderful Canopic Jar is French, made of bronze and c1880. Canopic jars were used by the ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the viscera of their owner for the afterlife and placed in tombs. They were reproduced in the 18th, 19th & 20th centuries in various materials, perhaps most famously by Wedgwood, at each successive Egyptian revival! This is a rather handsome good sized example.
