“Greyhound” a wonderful bronze, signed PJ Mêne, c1870. Pierre Jules Mêne was born in Paris in 1810, dying there in 1879. He was a sculptor of hunting scenes, animals and equestrian groups. He was a student of René Compaire, exhibiting at the Paris Salon from 1838 to 1879; he was awarded a third class medal in 1855, a second class medal in 1878 and a first class medal in 1852 and 1861. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1861. His work is illustrated in ‘Bronze Sculptures of Les Animaliers’, J Horswell and
