James Timothy Gleeson born Hornsby, Sydney, in 1915, dying in 2008, was a painter and critic. He studied at East Sydney Technical School in 1936, and in Europe and the UK between 1947 and 1949. He was renowned as Australia’s foremost surrealist painter, holding solo exhibitions between 1950 and 1992. His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, and all the State Art Galleries, as well as many regional galleries.
