Mounted Cantonese Bowl
An unusually large ormolu mounted Cantonese Export enamelled porcelain bowl c1870. The superb ormolu mounts are French. It was very typical for Chinese porcelains, and in fact Japanese porcelains, to be ‘value added’ in Europe by being mounted or having handles or other decorative elements applied to the pieces, usually in gilt metal, to add to the decorative value of the objects. Some of the largest examples of this are the pieces that George IV had made for Brighton Pavilion which now reside in Buckingham Palace.
