A Wedgwood & Bentley black basalt portrait bust of George II after the original marble bust by Michael Rysbrack c1770. Josiah Wedgwood and Thomas Bentley went into partnership in 1768 until Bentley’s death in 1780. At this point Christie’s held a 12 day sale of all remaining Wedgwood & Bentley stock and Josiah then continued the business under his name only…Wedgwood. George II wasn’t particularly popular or much memorialised and this is quite an uncommon piece. Height: 24cm
